Battle for the Bay festival 2016 hits Dollymount next weekend

The free festival is back for its tenth year and will host the ‘King or Queen of the Bay’ kitesurfing contest.

The two day festival also offers fireworks, paddle boarding, kitesurfing and freestyle shows and will take place on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29.

There will also be entertainment on dry land with live music all day, a Kids Zone with fairground rides and a food village.

This year there will also be a Beach Market with over 25 traders selling everything from vintage clothes, vinyl records, Arts & Crafts and jewellery.

There will also be a Boardercross contest which is a mix of freestyling and racing which will bring a unique format of the competitors together on the starting line for a slalom style fight that is fast and furious involving jumping water obstacles.

Competitors include Irish champion and number six in the world for wave riding Jade O’Connor as well as Jalou Langeree, the world champion for wave riding and number one on the ladies world-ranking.

This year, Dublin City Council is celebrating Biodiversity (variety of life on earth) at the festival. There will be games for kids to interact with wildlife and learn how to conserve water as well as interactive bird displays and guided walks to the dunes of Dublin Bay.
